Title:

Commission/Staff Input

Purpose/Background:

•  Highlight first Year of Public Use for Pearson Park

•  Recreation Program Update
Summer wrap-up:
-Virtual Art: Partnership with the Rumriver Art Center to offer art classes from the comfort of home. Two classes have concluded. One filled past max capacity of 20, with participation at 25.
-Yoga in the park: Participants found a way to relax and unwind with sunset Yoga at the Draw. Most classes were full or near full, the exception being on very humid days.
-BINGO with the Anoka Women of Today: three sessions are being offered, including one as a part of Happy Daze. First turnout was good, even with ending early due to threat of severe storms.
-Concert Series: Increased attendance every week, even with new COVID protocols.
Late Summer Programs:
-Extended Yoga in the Park: Due to request by residents, this program is extended through the month of September!
-Extended Virtual Art: Additional session will be a dragonfly watercolor painting. Those who register pick up supplies from the Rumriver Art Center and tune into Zoom on September 10th.
-Hike with a Naturalist: New program with Minnesota Master Naturalist Educator, Carlyn Erion.  Participants can join for a series of informal hikes as Minnesota transitions from Summer to Fall, and learn about what they observe.
-BINGO with the Anoka Women of Today: one more regular session in October, winner takes half the pot, the other half is donated to help children with critical illnesses.
-Fall Equinox Starwatch Party: Join WCCO Meteorologist Mike Lynch to learn about the night sky. He will bring out multiple telescopes, including his telescope-astrophotography system to view distant targets in the night sky.

•  Happy Daze Forecast
-It was voted to cancel Happy Days and create Happy Daze as a series of smaller, socially-distant events
-All events are family friendly and consist of two nights to spread out larger activities. This allows for more participation while further distancing participants
-Each evening has one larger event and one complimentary event, some snacks available at each
-Registration opens on Friday September 4th for residents, and Monday September 7th for non-residents. Walk-ups will be allowed for most events, but not guaranteed
