Title:
Request to Upgrade Street light at the Corner of 144th lane and Tungsten Way
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
Staff received a request to upgrade the street light fixture at the corner of Tungsten Way and 144th Ln
Background:
The resident living near the intersection is concerned with the increase in crime and feels the additional illumination from an LED fixture would help increase safety in the area. There would also be a energy savings over time by switching to an LED bulb.

.
Timeframe:
10 Minutes
Observations/Alternatives:
The normal maintenance process is to repair the light when there is a malfunction, such as a bad ballast or the light bulb itself fails. If the street light is beyond normal repairs, it is upgraded to an LED fixture at that time. If Connexus follows their normal maintenance procedure the cost of the upgrade to LED is covered under the maintenance agreement and there is no $800.00 upgrade charge. Staff reviewed the crime mapping application for the area for the period of 1/1/20-10/14/20 and found no significant increase in crime near that intersection.
Funding Source:
Street Light Fund 9603-6489
Recommendation:
Staff recommends not upgrading to a LED fixture at this time and let Connexus Energy decide when replacement is required
Action:
Motion to council is to not upgrade to an LED fixture at this time and let Connexus Energy decide when replacement is required
