Authorization to Purchase Maintenance Equipment for the New Public Works Facility - Please Note:  this item was removed from the Consent Agenda (5.6) to be considered as Regular Agenda Item 7.2.

The purpose of this case is to seek authorization to purchase to a used fork lift and a new sweeper/scrubber for the new Public Works Facility.  The new salt shed was part of the original case on July 13th council case and will be brought back at a future date. Staff felt with extended production lead times for new equipment and a tighter used equipment market, because of those circumstances, it was important to bring the equipment purchases forward separately.    

  The PW facility was designed with ample mezzanine storage, but we currently do not have a forklift in equipment inventory.  The second piece of equipment needed is a combination sweeper/scrubber.  We can use our large street sweepers to do the bulk of the sweeping in the warm storage areas, but we need a more compact unit to clean under the mezzanines and in the work shops.  This unit will also be used in the parking ramp for spot clean ups, as well as the fire station apparatus bays and the police parking bays by the building maintenance staff.  The sweeper/scrubber would  be purchased through the Minnesota CPV and that quote is attached to this case.  As with everything in todays market, estimated deliver is 22 weeks out.

The used fork lift can be purchased through quotes from local dealers, which Ramsey has two.  Staff test drove two fork lifts at the new site and selected one we felt was best suited for our purposes.  Before this case could be written though, it was sold, so staff will have to go through the process again to find a replacement, that estimate is attached as well

Staff recommends purchase of a new Tennant M20 Floor Sweeper/ Scrubber at the State Contract Price of $62,640.66.  Staff also recommends purchase of a used forklift, at a price not to exceed $17,000.00 (previous estimate, plus 10%), contingent on the current used market price.
