Authorize Hiring a Parks Maintenance Worker

 

The Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker position was approved as part of the 2022 budgeting process. The position is necessary for many reasons, but especially due to increased demand for park maintenance and repair, as well as to prepare for and clean-up after City sponsored events.  This position duties also include snow plowing and being a member of the emergency on-call rotation. With this hire, the City will have six Parks Maintenance Workers including the Parks Lead Maintenance Worker.  

An internal recruitment process was conducted. Staff selected Mr. Gunnar Ledin. Mr. Ledin has been a seasonal employee with the City for several years and has currently been serving as an on-call temporary snow plow driver. Mr. Ledin underwent and passed the City's pre-employment testing process, including a criminal background check, professional reference check, driving record check and employment verifications; as well as a physical exam and drug screen. The City extended a job offer which is contingent upon City Council approval. Staff is recommending Mr. Gunnar Ledin be hired as a full-time Parks Maintenance Worker. Mr. Ledin will be subject to a 6-month probationary period and all Personnel Policies and/or employment contracts will apply.
 

The full funding required for this position (wages and benefits) is $74,032 and has already been included in the 2022 budget.

To hire Mr. Gunnar Ledin as a full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker, effective on or near January 18, 2022 at $24.389 per hour which is step 1 of the 2022 wage scale.
