Title
Adopt Resolution #22-135 to Approve Hiring a New City Administrator and the Associated Contract
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is for the City Council to consider hiring Mr. Brian Hagen for the position of City Administrator.
Background: The former City Administrator, Mr. Kurt Ulrich, resigned from the City in May. Staff conducted a nationwide recruitment, received 11 applications and 10 candidates were interviewed by a team of several people, including Councilmember Howell and Councilmember Musgrove, Mr. Randy Bauer - Chair of the Planning Commission, and four members of staff (Diana Lund, Grant Riemer, Bruce Westby and Colleen Lasher). Five candidates were invited to a second interview which included six Councilmembers and all six department heads. Following second interviews, the City Council selected two finalists for further consideration. After careful consideration, Mr. Brian Hagen was selected for the position.
Mr. Hagen has passed the City's pre-employment testing which included updated reference checks and relied on previous pre-employment testing from when he was hired last fall as the Deputy City Administrator/Community Development Director. Mr. Hagen will be subject to the terms of the attached employment agreement.
