Zoning Code Update Preliminary Discussion

The Zoning & Subdivision Code (Chapter 117) has been updated several times over the years as individual issues or topics have surfaced.  Staff noted several areas, mostly minor things, that need to be cleaned up, clarified, or rearranged. 

The goals of updating the Code are for ease of use by property owners, developers, and staff:

•Consistency in terms with definitions
•Clear purpose and intent of zoning districts
•Clear distinctions between districts
•Get regulations to align with the Comprehensive Plan
•Get it organized/Eliminate redundancies and contradictions
•Streamline processes

Staff is not proposing to make any changes to topics that the Planning Commission has worked on in recent years (such as Accessory Dwelling Units, Home Occupation Permits, etc.).  

An introductory article will appear in the next Ramsey Resident newsletter.  It is asking for input on parts of the Zoning Code that they have experienced issues with or would like to see modified.

No formal action at this time.  Please provide direction on any areas that the Planning Commission would like to discuss or explore.  Staff will schedule time over the next several months, keeping mindful of other public hearing and development proposals on the agendas, to discuss various topics the Planning Commission has interest in.
