Discuss Polling Locations

Background: Following the 2022 General Election, we received comments from the public, head judges and staff regarding two facilities that did not work well in administering the election. Independent Baptist was used for our Ward 2 Precinct 2 polling location and Fire Station #2 was used for our Ward 4 Precinct 1 polling location. See the attached comments about issues at both locations.

Staff proposes utilizing Fire Station #1 for voters who previously voted at Independent Baptist (W2P2). The second proposal is to utilize Ramsey Elementary for voters who previously voted at Fire Station #2 (W4P1). Both proposed locations have previously been used as polling locations and offer ample well-lit parking lots, are ADA compliant and offer large rooms to administer voting.  The change would be effective for the 2024 scheduled elections.

Purpose: To decide on alternate polling locations for Ward 2 Precinct 2 and Ward 4 Precinct 1 that are within one mile of the precinct boundary.   A resolution would be brought forward to City Council later in 2023 establishing the 2024 polling locations as required by law.
