Title
Approve Revision to Public Works Facility Walk-In Business Hours
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to approve revising the Public Works Facility walk-in business hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM to 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Background:
Currently, the front doors to the Public Works facility that are used for public access automatically unlock at 8:00 AM and lock again at 4:30 PM. Staff recommends revising the time that the front doors automatically lock to 3:30 PM to prevent public access to the facility after 3:30 PM.
Almost all Public Works staff leave work at 3:30 PM, leaving only one or two staff available any given day to watch the front door between 3:30 and 4:30 PM. Due to security concerns, staff requests that public access be restricted after 3:30 PM. Staff will still answer phones and emails until 4:30 PM, and will open the front door until 4:30 PM if needed for deliveries and any member of the public that needs to communicate directly with staff. A drop box is also available 24 hours a day outside the front doors for use by the public to drop off or pick up Parks facility keys for facility rentals. Staff therefore does not anticipate that there will be any negative impacts to the public as a result of the walk-in hour revisions.

Funding Source:
The only funding required as a result of the recommended action is to change one decal on the front doors of the Public Works Facility from “4” to “3”. This work can be completed in-house and is estimated to cost less than $100 in material costs and staff time, which will be funded from the Public Works budget.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends alternative #1 due to noted security concerns.
