Purpose/Background:
Purpose/Background: One of the legislative changes made in 2023 regarding elections was that cities can now adopt a resolution requiring that Write-in candidates submit a request in order to have their individual votes tallied. Tallying write-in votes post election is a lengthy time-sensitive process. This change would align with how write-in votes are tallied for Federal, State and County offices. This resolution will be upheld moving forward. If the City desires a change, a subsequent resolution could be passed.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends to Adopt Resolution #23-204 for Counting Write-In Votes for Local Elective Office.
