Title:

Consider a Resolution Approving the 2011 City Health Insurance Contribution for Non-union Employees - a Revised Case

Background:

This case was authorized by the City Council on December 14, 2010 while the city was in the process of negotiations with the unions. The AFSCME group, pending City Council approval, has tentatively agreed to the contribution amounts listed in the chart below. To provide for a consistent contribution to health insurance amongst all employees groups, it is recommended that the same contribution be established for non-union employees to maintain that consistency.

*Each plan member receives three free office visits (physician services) annually in addition to the free preventive care visit.
**The City’s 2011 VEBA contribution includes the $4.30 monthly claims fee.    
 

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt resolution 11-01-XXX approving the revised health insurance contributions listed above for non-union employees. If approved, the monthly health insurance contributions will be effective retroactively to January 1, 2011.

Funding Source:

The proposed health insurance contributions have been included in the 2011 General Fund Budget.

Motion to confirm the recommendation of the Personnel Committee to approve the revised health insurance contributions listed above for non-union employees. If approved, the monthly health insurance contributions will be effective retroactively to January 1, 2011.
