Title:
Authorization to Promote an Mechanic to Lead Auto Mechanic
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to ask the City Council to promote a current Mechanic to Lead Mechanic. This new position was discussed as part of the 2025 budgeting process and is accounted for in the budget. This promotion does not require back-filling the Mechanic position left vacant. With this promotion, the City will have three full-time Mechanics; two Mechanics and one Lead Mechanic.
This promotion reflects the City’s desire to maintain an effective organization. Promotions or reclassifications, when needed due to changes in positions or the need to add a new position, serve to retain high-performing employees and further the City's mission to work together to responsibly grow our community, and to provide quality, cost-effective and efficient government services.
The primary objective of this position is to assist in providing work direction and training to full-time, part-time and seasonal staff, scheduling of division maintenance, responsibility for and coordination of resources to ensure effective and efficient completion of construction, repair and maintenance of all City-owned vehicles and equipment, while also performing the daily duties of a Mechanic. Daily operations include coordination and performance of all maintenance repairs on City-owned vehicles and equipment (electric, gas and diesel). The lead mechanic will ensure timely completion of all maintenance and repair projects; manage the recordkeeping for all shop activities and assist with administrative duties related to the shop budget, parts and supplies inventory. The position reports to the Public Works Streets Supervisor.
