Title:

Authorization to Hire a Building Maintenance Worker

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to request the City Council's authorization to hire a full-time Building Maintenance Worker.   This recruitment was necessary due to a vacancy left by the former employee in this position.   

An internal and external recruitment was conducted and Mr. Kevin Fields was selected as the top candidate for the position. Staff completed the necessary background checks and are recommending that Mr. Fields begin as the City's new full-time Building Maintenance Worker on or near April 9, 2025.

As with all City employees recognized by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit, he will serve a six-month probationary period and will be subject to the City's Personnel Policy and the AFSCME Labor Agreement.  

The primary objectives of this position are to assist in maintaining city facilities, including, but not limited to buildings, offices, meeting rooms, HVAC equipment and grounds of the Ramsey Municipal Center, both Fire Stations, City Parks, Public Works facility and the Municipal Parking Facility, as well as assist with elections set-up and take-down.   


 

Funding Source:

The funding required for this position is included in the 2025 budget. 

Recommendation:

To hire Mr. Kevin Fields as a full-time Building Maintenance Worker, effective on or near April 9, 2025, at $26.615 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2025 wage scale.

Outcome/Action:

Motion to hire Mr. Kevin Fields as a full-time Building Maintenance Worker, effective on or near April 9, 2025, at $26.615 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2025 wage scale.
