Title
Adopt Resolution #25-072 Proclaiming April 25, 2025, as Arbor Day and the Month of May as Arbor Month
Purpose/Background:
The City of Ramsey has been recognized as a Tree City USA for thirty-three (33) consecutive years (up through and including 2024 activities). One of the standards necessary to obtain this designation is the adoption of an Arbor Day proclamation. At its roots, Arbor Day is a day to encourage and celebrate the planting of trees. In Minnesota, Arbor Day is officially observed on the last Friday of April, which this year is April 25. The State of Minnesota also recognizes the month of May as Arbor Month. The attached resolution serves as the City's official observance of Arbor Day on April 25, 2025, and also recognizes May as Arbor Month.
Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives:
City Staff are planning an Arbor Month planting activity that will serve multiple purposes. First, it satisfies one of the standards to obtain recertification as a Tree City USA. Secondly, it will serve to start replacing lost canopy cover due to Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The planting activity is tentatively scheduled for May 14, 2025, beginning around 6:00 p.m. and will include planting six (6) or seven (7) trees in the boulevard along 145th Avenue, east of Rhinestone Street (where we had to remove seven [7] ash trees due to EAB).
Funding Source:
This case is being handled as part of staff's regular duties.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends adopting Resolution #25-072 proclaiming April 25, 2025, as Arbor Day and the month of May as Arbor Month.
