Approve Adjustments to the Hourly Wages for Temporary Seasonal Employees Working in the Public Works Department

The purpose of this case is to formally authorize the 2026 budgeted hourly wage scale for temporary seasonal employees working in the Public Works Department. This includes wages for temporary seasonal employees working in the spring, summer and fall and excludes temporary AFSCME employees or on-call snowplow drivers. 

As part of the 2026 approved budget, the City Council agreed to increase the wage scale by 3%. The 2026 wage scale for temporary Parks, Streets and Utilities employees will be $15.45 to $18.54, depending on qualifications.  

Recent Per Hour Pay Scale History
2024 through 2025 $15.00 to $18.00
2020 through 2023 $13.00 to $15.00
2018 through 2019 $11.00 to $12.00 

The funding required for this action has been included in the 2026 budget. 

 

Staff recommends authorizing the new wage scale of $15.45 to $18.54 per hour, depending on qualifications.
