Title:

Resolution Authorizing 3rd Payment to Rum River Contracting for IP 08-34; the Bituminous Paving of 151st, 152nd, and Fluorine Street

Background:

This pay request is to cover change order #1 on City project 08-34; the bituminous paving of 151st, 152nd, and Fluorine Street.  This item was discussed by the Public Works Committee on January 18, 2011 and is being forwarded for Council consideration since it should have been included with the contractor's previous pay request from December of 2010.  The quantity of soil removed from the site exceeded the bid quantity and the contractor submitted a request for a change order.  Staff reviewed the request and found that the thickness of the pavement section was not included in the original earthwork quantity.  Additional earthwork was required when grades were adjusted in the field to allow for smoother transitions from the new paved road to existing driveways and yards, and to account for additional storm sewer and improved drainage.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends approving Change Order No. 1 for IP 08-34; the bituminous paving of 151st Avenue, 152nd Avenue and Fluorine Street in the amount of $39,063.75.  It is further recommended to authorize the attached resolution for pay application #3 to Rum River Contracting.
