Signal Timing on Hwy 10 Corridor

Observations/Alternatives:
Staff contacted Kevin Schwartz at MnDot regarding signal timing on Hwy 10 and why such a limited number of cars are allowed to enter the corridor from intersecting roads, such as Armstrong Blvd, Ramsey Blvd, Sunfish Lk Blvd and Thurston Ave. during the morning rush hour. The answer, which is not a surprise to anyone, is the corridor is over capacity. the signals along the corridor are all inter-related. Any changes to the timing at one signal effects the traffic volumes on the whole corridor. The main traffic movement is obviously Hwy 10. If more cars are allowed to enter Hwy 10 from the side roads the traffic congestion builds on Hwy 10. There are cameras at all of the intersections and minor adjustments can be made to the timing, depending on the situation. MnDot has hired a consultant to study the signal timing on Hwy 10 to see if any improvements could be made, but most of the improvements would be limited to off peak hours.
