Update on Crosswalk Relocation at Alpine Dr/Helium St

At the April 15th PW Committee meeting staff was given direction to move the existing crosswalk located near the intersection of Alpine Dr/Krypton St to a new location 500 ft to the east at the intersection of Alpine Dr/ Helium St.  This location was chosen for several reasons, it seems to be the preferred route for students from the north side of Alpine Dr to cross on their way to Ramsey Elementary, there is street light at that location and the sight lines for both motorists and pedestrians are improved over the original location.  Work will begin the last week of July.  The reason for the delay in making the move is the ability to get a better price from our concrete contractor.  If we can combine several small projects like this, he can get a better price on concrete, instead of ordering 1-2 yards at a time.  Concrete company's charge up to $500.00 extra for what they consider a short load.  This adds considerably to the cost of a small project.
