Title

Adopt Resolution #2016-01-023 to Ratify the 2016 Budgeted Paid-on-call Firefighter Wage Increase

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to ratify the approval of the City's Paid-on-call Firefighter wage increase as per the adopted 2016 City budget.

As the City Council will recall, discussions occurred during the budgeting process regarding the need to increase the Paid-on-call Firefighters' wages from $12.88 per hour to $14.50 per hour.    The approved hourly wage is paid for all work performed by Firefighters, whether it be meetings, trainings, emergency response, etc.

As discussed, the current wage of $12.88 per hour has been in place since January 1, 2009.   The wage adjustment is necessary in order to recruit and retain the City's full compliment of Paid-on-call Firefighters.   In addition, per the Joint Powers Agreement with the City of Nowthen, a portion of the expense will be reimbursed as per the salaries provision of the Agreement.

Funding Source:

The 2016 funding required for this action is $17,490.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends increasing wages from $12.88 per hour to $14.50 per hour as per the approved 2016 budget, effective January 1, 2016.

Action:

Motion to adopt resolution #16-01-023 to increase the hourly wage for the City’s Paid-on-call Firefighters to $14.50 per hour, effective January 1, 2016.
