Title:

Staff Updates on Improvement Projects and Items of Interest

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to update the Public Works Committee on active and proposed improvement projects within the City, and on other items of interest to the Committee as noted below.

MnDOT Improvement Projects
 
  • TH 47 at 142nd Avenue
    • Remove left turns from southbound TH 47 to eastbound 142nd Avenue
    • Construction proposed to occur this fall
Anoka County Improvement Projects
 
  • US 10 & CR 83/Armstrong Boulevard Interchange
    • Project complete (just punch list work remains)
  • CR 116/Bunker Lake Boulevard Pavement Reclamation and Overlay – Ramsey Boulevard to Basalt Street
    • Pavement to be reclaimed and overlaid with 4” new pavement
    • Considering striping for left turns to Azurite Street from westbound CR 116
    • Construction occurring June 6th through July 1st
  • CR 83/Armstrong Boulevard Pavement Reclamation and Overlay – 149th Lane to 173rd Avenue
    • Pavement to be reclaimed and overlaid with 4” new pavement
    • Bypass lanes added at 154th, 157th, and 163rd Avenues
    • Right turn lanes added at 155th and Tiger Avenues
    • Construction scheduled from September 12th through October 14th (will not interfere with Game Fair)
City Improvement Projects
 
  • Business Park 95 Regional Stormwater Pond Improvements
    • May 24th – Council approved plans & authorized bids
    • June 21st – Bids to be opened
    • June 28th – Council considers accepting bids and awarding a construction contract
    • Construction in July and August 2016 (dry season)
  • Andrie Street & 164th Lane Reconstruction
    • May 24th – Council accepted bids & awarded a construction contract to Douglas-Kerr Underground, LLC
    • June 23rd – Construction starts (3 phases)
    • Phase 1 - South end of Andrie Street between Alpine Drive and Muirfield Court (1 month)
    • Phase 2 - North end of Andrie Street between Muirfield Court and 164th Lane (1 month)
    • Phase 3 - 164th Lane (1 month)
    • Project completion scheduled for early October 2016
  • 2016 Sealcoat Project
    • May 24th – Council approved plans & authorized bids
    • June 21st – Bids to be opened
    • June 28th – Council considers accepting bids and awarding a construction contract
    • Construction proposed to begin early July 2016
    • Project completion proposed by mid-August 2016
  • 2016 Overlay Project
    • June 14th – Council approved plans & authorized bids
    • July 14th – Bids to be opened
    • July 26th – Council to consider accepting bids & awarding a construction contract
    • Construction proposed to begin early August
    • Project completion proposed by September 16th
  • Riverdale Drive Extension - Traprock St. to Ramsey Blvd.
    • Plans and specifications nearing completion
    • Parks property appraisal complete
    • Scheduling Anoka County Parks meeting to discuss mutually beneficial acquisition of 5.3 acres R/W
  • TH 47 Crosswalk Improvements @ Nowthen Blvd / Xkimo Street
    • Master Partnership Contract #1001234 executed in 2015
    • May 10th – Council approved TH 47 trail LUP
    • May 24th – Council approved Work Order for improvements
    • Staff completing concrete work and contracting out striping & traffic control
    • MnDOT will contract signal system revisions work out; City to reimburse
  • Sunwood Drive Concrete Pavement Improvements
    • Concrete pavement needs repairs in numerous areas, especially crosswalks
    • Work not budgeted for 2016
    • Temporary pavement repairs to occur in 2016 (est. $15,000)
    • Permanent repairs proposed for 2017 (added to CIP)
  • Sunwood Drive Striping Improvements
    • Coordinate with concrete pavement improvements
