Community of Promise Donation Request

Youth First Community of Promise is requesting $5,000 in program support for their after school and summer programs located in the Ramsey Neighborhood Center.

Youth First operates under a joint powers agreement with the Cities of Ramsey, Andover and Anoka along with Anoka County and the Anoka-Hennepin School District. This program offers after school and summer programs to youth and families. Youth First focuses on five promises: caring adults, safe places, effective education, a healthy start and opportunities to serve.

In 2010, Youth First served 73 Ramsey residents and 5.5% of the youth served were homeless.

Funding for Community of Promise is proposed to be re-allocated from the Ramsey Police Department Safety Camp program.

The City of Ramsey contributes $5,000 to the Ramsey Police Department (PD) Safety Camp Program annually.  Said funding originates from the city's Charitable Gambling Fund.  In 2010, the PD Safety Camp Program will not need the annual $5,000 gambling fund contribution due to the current fund balance of the Safety Camp account and private contributions sufficient to fund the event.  As a result, the $5,000 allocation for the PD Safety Camp will be available for re-allocation to the Youth First Community of Promise program.

Approve donation in amount of $5,000 for the Youth First Community of Promise program from the City's Charitable Gambling Fund.
