Title:
Select Dates for Remaining 2019 EDA Events
Purpose/Background:
Annually, the Ramsey EDA sponsors a Business Expo, Business Appreciation Golf Tournament and a Business Networking Event. The purpose of these events is to bring together local businesses, offer an opportunity for business-to-business networking, and provide an effective channel of communication between the City and the local business community. Solidifying these dates now and getting them on the City calendar is important for planning purposes.
In 2018, the Business Appreciation Day was held on Tuesday, August 7th the the Links at Northfork. This date coincided with Night to Unite and attendance was significantly down from previous years. Traditionally, this event has be held on the Third Tuesday of August and has had very good attendance.
In 2018, The Business Network Event was held on November 27, 2018 to accomodate the Keynote Speaker; Ron Schara. Traditionally this event has been in November prior to Thanksgiving.
This year the 2019 Business Expo will be held on April 6, 2019 at Adrenaline Sports for the first time. Staff is excited at the possibilities of this venue for this type of event and expects the event to be well attended. As of February 7, 2019, 24 businesses have registered for the event.

2019 Busines Appreciation Day
Staff has researched other dates for local business networking / business appreciation events in 2019. The Metro North Chamber has their event on Thursday, May 16, The Anoka Area Chamber has their event on July 22 and the Anoka Hennepin Education Foundation has their event on September 7, the same date as Happy Days. The spacing of City events, bringing back the traditional Third Tuesday in August and the spacing of other local networking/business appreciation events seem to make August 20, 2019 a good date. Staff has asked The Links at Northfork Golf Course to reserve that date and they have done so. Staff is open to other dates in August if there are other dates the EDA desires.

This event traditionally has been held in November on a Thursday morning. Last year we had the highest attended event ever which was likely due to the local speaker and the topic. Staff has verified that November 7, November 14 and November 21, 2019 are all available at the Fountains at Ramsey. Thanksgiving falls on November 28 this year so all suggested dates would be in advance of that. Staff is comfortable with the spacing of this City event. Staff is asking for EDA input for selection of a date and potential speaker ideas.
