Adopt Resolution #19-084 Proclaiming April 26, 2019 as Arbor Day and the Month of May as Arbor Month

The City of Ramsey has been recognized as a Tree City USA for twenty-seven (27) consecutive years (up through and including 2018 activities). One of the standards necessary to obtain this designation is the adoption of an Arbor Day proclamation. At its root, Arbor Day is a day to encourage and celebrate the planting of trees. In Minnesota, Arbor Day is officially observed on the last Friday of April, which this year, is April 26. The State of Minnesota also recognizes the month of May as Arbor Month. The attached resolution serves as the City's official observance of Arbor Day on April 26, 2019 and also recognizes May as Arbor Month.

The City is working with staff from Ramsey Elementary School on a planting event with students in their Environmental Learning Area.  School staff, City Staff, and DNR staff will be collaborating to ensure a successful and fun planting experience for the students.  The intention will be to teach the students about the importance of trees, some tree biology, and of course, plant some trees!  City Staff will be on site to assist with the education and planting aspects, while the DNR is providing the seedlings for planting.

This case is being handled as part of staff's regular duties.
