Title

Adopt Resolution #19-091 Hiring Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers and Temporary Interns

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers and Temporary Interns.  Annually the City employs Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers to perform work in the Parks, Streets, and Utilities Divisions of Public Works and Interns to work in Administrative Services, Community Development, Engineering, and Parks.

The process to fill these positions includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews, background checks, pre-employment testing, City Council approval to hire and on-boarding.

At this time, staff selected two qualified seasonal candidates and two qualified interns. All candidates have passed the pre-employment screenings and staff recommends hiring the candidates listed below.

Notification:

Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers pay:  The pay scale is $11.00 per hour, with a .25 cent increase for each returning season, to a maximum of $12.00 per hour.  Employees hired for this position must be at least 18 years of age, but are not required to hold a commercial drivers license.  

Intern pay: The pay scale is $12.00 per hour to $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Funding Source:

The funding required to fill these positions is included within the approved 2019 budget.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends hiring the following 2019 employees on or near the dates listed below: 

1) Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers: James Kroll, effective April 29, 2019 at $11.00 per hour; and Jerry Hutchinson, effective April 24, 2019 at $11.25 per hour;  and
2) Temporary Interns: Administrative Intern, Jay Elmquist, effective, May 13, 2019 at $13.00 per hour; and Planning Intern, Elliot Mohler, effective May 20, 2019 at $14.00 per hour.


 

Action:

Motion to adopt resolution #19-091 to hire the following employees on or near the dates listed below:

Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers: James Kroll, effective April 29, 2019 at $11.00 per hour; and Jerry Hutchinson, effective April 24, 2019 at $11.25 per hour; and

Temporary Interns: Administrative Intern, Jay Elmquist, effective, May 13, 2019 at $13.00 per hour; and Planning Intern, Elliot Mohler, effective May 20, 2019 at $14.00 per hour.
