Information
Title:
Consideration of Highway 10 Committee Appointment
Purpose/Background:
With the resignation of Ward 3 Council member Melody Shryock, several committee appointments have changed. Ms. Shryock was a member of the Public Works Committee and the Environmental Policy Board and Council Member Heinrich and Council Member Musgrove have assumed regular roles as the appointed alternates to these two committees, respectively. Those two commitees now have no alternates. Ms. Shryock was also an alternate to the Youth First Board, which also now does not have an alternate due to her resignation. Ms, Shryock was also a member of the Highway 10 Committee, which had no designated alternate.
Council member Heinrich has expressed an interest in serving on the Highway 10 Committee. She recently was a part of the group that went to Washington, D.C. to advocate for transportation funding for Highway 10.
New Council Members are expected to join the Council after the Special Election in August, and in November of 2019, to fill unexpired vacant terms. The Council could reconsider appointments at this time or wait until regular appointments are made in January 2020.
Note, due to the fact that three members now constitute a majority of the seated Council, meetings of this committee would be posted with at least a 72-hour notice, if the vacant position is filled.
The council could also consider formal action to appoint the current alternates of Public Works and the Environmental Policy Board as regular members and appoint other alternates in their place, as well as appoint an alternate to the Youth First Board. Attached is a list of the Council appointments made in January.
