Application for Aid to Firefighter Grants (AFG Grants)

Aid to Firefighter Grants has been in effect for many years. The City of Ramsey has been sucessful at being awarded funding in the past for purchase of items such as: Replacement SCBA's, Mobile SCBA Trailer, Wildland Turnout Gear, Fire Prevention Vehicle, Additional FD Pagers, Fire Prevention Materials and Equipment, Health and Fitness Classes and Equipment.

Before beginning the effort of gathering information and quotes, staff would like to get authorization from council to begin the process.

The AFG's are a matching grant. With Ramsey's population at 23,000+ the match would be 10% of the awarded amount. It should be noted that with the Joint Powers Agreement with Nowthen, if awarded grant funding is for Station #3 in Nowthen, it would be expected that Nowthen contributes the appropriate match (5% for Nowthen)

Deadline for application is Sept 9th

Staff recommends Council authorization to begin grant application process. It should be noted that application does not mandate accepting funding if rewarded. There is a formal acceptance step in the process at a later date.

Funding would be provided through the normal Fire Department budget
