Title:
Adopt Resolution #20-093 Hiring a Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker. Annually, the City employs Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers to perform work in the Parks, Streets, and Utilities Divisions of Public Works. At this time, staff selected one seasonal candidates to work in the Public Works Department. It should be noted that, although the attached job description indicates the hiring range of $11.00 to $12.00 per hour, the City Council approved a new wage scale of $13.00 to $15.00 per hour for seasonal employees, including a .50 cent increase for each returning year. The candidate listed below is returning for his fifth season.
Seasonal Public Works Maintenance workers provide general maintenance of streets, park grounds, trails, buildings, and related facilities and equipment through the spring, summer, and possibly fall months. This also includes mowing and trimming; pruning and planting trees or working on landscape projects; maintaining athletic fields; picking up trash; street maintenance; and utilities maintenance.
Returning candidates are not required to interview, but are required to complete the rest of the pre-employment testing, which is the case with Mr. Beaver. Mr. Beaver has worked as a seasonal employee since 2016 and has passed all of the pre-employment testing once again this year.
