Title

Approve contract for the replacement purchase of a 1999 Custom Fire Engine with a 2021 Rosenbauer Engine

Purpose/Background:

The City Council approved the 2020 Capital Equipment Budget to include the replacement of a 1999 Custom Fire Engine with a 2021 model year over a 2 year budget cycle. The current Engine is located in Station 1 in the west portion of the city and will be 22 years old at the time of the replacement. The Fire Department attempts to keep the Fire Engines on a 20 year replacement cycle for the purpose of maintaining a reliable piece of equipment, limiting repair cost and providing new technology that benefits firefighters in the form of efficiency and safety. Maintenance costs for the current vehicle will begin to increase more rapidly with age.

The bid process used HGACBuy, a nationwide government cooperative purchasing program. The contracts has been awarded by virtue of a public competitive procurement process compliant with state statutes.

The contract purchase price total is $668,622 If chassis amount of $281,431 is paid in 2020, the total purchase price will see a deduction of $10,805 resulting in a final purchase price of $657,817.
