Title:

Adopt Resolution #20-121 Amending Ramsey Central Park's Name

Purpose/Background:

Considerable discussion has occurred over the years, relative to naming public facilities—culminating in the Park and Recreation Commission recommending a formal naming policy to City Council at their regular February Commission meeting in 2020.  That policy is reflected within Resolution #20-120 and is included as a consent item within this meeting's agenda.

Notification:

The topic of renaming for Central Park was discussed by City Council at work session in 2019, and also by the Park & Recreation Commission in 2020.

Observations/Alternatives:

The specific purpose of this case, and consideration of Resolution #20-121 is the proposal by Ramsey resident Ron Schara to rename Central Park to honor and recognize long-time resident and Nationally renown, Loral I Armstrong Delaney.  Mr. Schara will address the Council on the rationale and value of revising the park's name.

Funding Source:

Primary costs for revising the existing monument is believed to be between $3,000 to $5,000 including installation. The funding source may be either private donation, or the Park Trust Fund (or a combination of private and public funding sources).

Recommendation:

The Park & Recreation Commission, together with Staff supports the amended name for Ramsey's 36 year-old park.

Action:

Motion to Adopt Resolution #20-121, amending the name of the existing Central Park to be known as Loral I Armstrong Delaney Central Park.
