Title:
Adopt Resolution #21-037 to Hire a Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is for the City Council to authorize hiring a full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker.
As part of the 2021 budgeting process, the City Council approved a new full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker to be added to the Parks Division. With this new position, the City will have five Parks Maintenance Workers. The Park Maintenance Worker position is responsible for providing general maintenance of city-owned parks and trail systems. Responsibilities include all aspects of park maintenance, construction of new facilities and the operation of equipment while working in a variety of weather conditions. The position will also be involved in snow plowing of public streets, trails and walks.
Staff conducted an external recruitment process which included first interviews and second interviews. Mr. Dane Jessen was selected as the top candidate. Mr. Jessen successfully completed the City's background checks and pre-employment testing process. The City extended a contingent job offer pending City Council approval. If hired, Mr. Dane Jessen will be subject to a six-month probationary period, the personnel policy and the AFSCME labor agreement.

Funding Source:
The 2021 funding for this position, including benefits, is approximately $61,056 and has been included in the 2021 budget.
Recommendation:
To hire Mr. Dane Jessen as a full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker, effective on or near March 1, 2021, at $23.679 per hour which is step 1 of the 2021 wage scale.
Action:
Motion to adopt resolution #21-037 to hire Mr. Dane Jessen as a full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker, effective on or near March 1, 2021, at $23.679 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2021 wage scale.
