Title:
Additional Fire Officer for Station #3
Background:
The Makeup of the Fire Officers has been the following: Fire Chief, (2) Asst Chief, (2) Captains, (5) Lieutenants and Training Officer. The purpose of this case is to authorize the addition of a Captains position for Station #3. Currently there is one Lieutenant for station #3. With this approval, the current Lieutenant (Bart Hayft) would be promoted at the beginning of 2012 to the position of Captain. Firefighters from Station #3 will be interviewed and one will be selected to backfill the open position. Operations at Station #3 have evolved to the point an additional person in a supervisory role is needed to keep operations running smoothly.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends council approve the additional position of Captain.
Funding Source:
Under the Joint Powers Agreement with the City of Nowthen, Nowthen pays the officers pay for officers responding out of Station #3. The Captains pay of $3180 will be reimbursed through the City of Nowthen. Nowthen City Council has agreed to pay this additional amount beginning in 2012.
Council Action:
Approve/reject staff's recommendation to add a Captains postion to Station #3
