Title:
Adopt Ordinance #21-21 Amending City Code Article XVI – Tobacco, Sections 26-749 to 26-789
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to consider adoption of Ordinance #21-21 which revises City Code, Article XVI – Tobacco, Sections 26-749 to 26-789 to reflect the MN Tobacco 21 law that went into effect in August 2020, changing the legal age of tobacco sales from 18 to 21 years (Minn. Stats. § 609.685), as well as incorporate electronic delivery tobacco devices within the City of Ramsey, Anoka County, Minnesota.
Notification:
The Public Hearing notice for Ordinance #21-09 was published on November 12, 2021. The Public Hearing and first reading of the ordinance occurred on November 23, 2021 at the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting.
Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives:
The existing City Code Article XVI – Tobacco, Sections 26-749 to 26-789 is outdated and being updated to reflect current Minnesota statute and incorporate electronic delivery tobacco devices.
Funding Source:
This case is being handled as part of normal Staff duties.
Recommendation:
City Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the Ordinance #21-21.
Outcome/Action:
Motion to waive the City Charter requirement to read the ordinance aloud and adopt Ordinance #21-21 Amending City Code Article XVI – Tobacco, Sections 26-749 to 26-789.
