Title:
Authorization to Increase a Part-time Police Records Technician to Full-time
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to ask the City Council to authorize increasing a part-time Police Records Technician to a full-time.
As a result of budget discussions and feedback from staff, the City Council included funds in the 2022 budget to increase a 25 hour per week part-time Police Records Technician to full-time.
This position is one of the primary front counter contacts for customer service requests of the Police Department. The Police Records Technician processes and provides police reports to other criminal justice partners, insurance companies, and the public while complying with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) and other regulatory restrictions. The position compiles police statistical information/analysis and the duplication/dissemination of police squad videos. The Police Department currently has 2 full-time and 2 part-time employees in this area and 1 full-time manager of office operations. This request is to add 15 hours per week to make one of the part-time employees full-time to provide additional coverage, ensuring continuity of operations and service. This position will assist with the additional workload anticipated with the implementation of Police Body Cameras in 2022.
