Title:
Review Remaining 2023 Calendar/Preliminary 2024 Calendar
Purpose/Background:
We are over halfway through 2023! With only five regular meetings scheduled for the remainder of the year after tonight, staff wants to make sure that the scheduled meeting dates will work for the Commissioners. The June meeting was canceled due to lack of a quorum. Had staff known in advance that this meeting date was problematic for a majority of members, we would have rescheduled it. With the exception of November, all meetings are on the fourth Thursday of the month (November is the fifth Thursday due to Thanksgiving). Historically, the December meeting is often canceled due to lack of applications.
The remaining 2023 Planning Commission meeting dates are:
The Planning Commission will need to adopt the 2024 calendar in either September or October so that the applications received in December can be properly scheduled. The calendar is helpful for applicants to plan their project timelines a few months before submitting an application.
Date: Does the Commission like the Thursday meeting date? Other than Thanksgiving, Thursday nights may not be desirable when a long weekend away is planned. Most other Ramsey City meetings are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Time: Does the Commission like the 7:00 pm start or would an earlier time be desirable? The EPB meets at 6:30 pm and the EDA meets at 7:30 am. Most suburban communities have evening meeting times to accommodate commissioners and the public who work during the day. Some cities have daytime meetings to accommodate businesses and seniors better.

Recommendation:
Staff would recommend meetings on Tuesday or Wednesday and in the afternoons or earlier in the evening (6:00 or 6:30pm).
Outcome/Action:
Please confirm the remaining 2023 scheduled meeting dates. Please provide direction as to the day of the week and the time of day the Commission would like to hold meetings in 2024 so staff can bring back a draft calendar.
