Authorization to Promote a Patrol Officer to Sergeant

The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to promote a Patrol Officer to the position of Sergeant, as discussed during budget work sessions.     
 
The Police Department conducted an internal recruitment with many current Police Officers (Patrol Officers) to fill the position that will be vacant (contingent upon passing the 2024 budget and levy) due to bringing back the Administrative Sergeant position from several years ago. Many Patrol Officers were interviewed and Officer Jerad Dixon was selected to be promoted from Patrol Officer to Patrol Sergeant.  

The Sergeant selected to fill the Administrative Sergeant position is Sergeant Nick Dahlberg. The Administrative Sergeant role is considered an assignment slated for a 3-year commitment.  No action is necessary to transfer Sergeant Dahlberg from his current role supervising patrol shifts to supervising Investigations, Records staff and Community Resource Officers, which is currently being done by the Administrative Captain.    
 

The funding required for this promotion is included in the preliminary budget at an additional cost of $1,919.00 for the year.

To promote Patrol Officer Jerad Dixon, subject to passing the 2024 Final Budget and Levy, as the Police Department's next Patrol Sergeant, effective January 1, 2024 at $50.407 per hour based on step 4 of the 2024 wage scale.
