Title
Adopt Resolution #24-051 to Authorize an Adjustment to the Hourly Wages for Temporary Seasonal Employees Working in the Public Works Department
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to ask the City Council for authorization to formally adjust the hourly wages for temporary seasonal employees working in the Public Works Department. This case includes wages for temporary season employees working in the spring, summer and fall and excludes temporary AFSCME employees or on-call snowplow drivers.
Background: The City employs temporary seasonal employees to work in the Public Works Department. It continues to be very challenging to fill seasonal temporary positions due to competing wages in the community as well as the minimum age requirement of 18 years of age to operate most equipment.
During the August 22, 2023, City Council Work Session, as part of the 2024 budget discussions, the City Council discussed revising the hourly wage scale for Ramsey's temporary seasonal Parks, Streets and Utilities employees as follows for the 2024 budget. The consensus of the City Council was to adjust the wage scale to $15.00 to $18.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Previously, the 2020 to 2023 wage scale was $13.00 to $15.00 per hour, depending on qualifications; prior to that, the 2018 to 2019 wage scale was $11.00 to $12.00 per hour.
