Title
Authorization to Hire Public Works Streets Maintenance Workers
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire two full-time Streets Maintenance Workers. These positions were reviewed during the 2024 budget discussions and have been accounted for in the 2024 budget.
Staff conducted a recruitment and interview process to fill the openings. Staff selected Mr. Landon Dowd-Sivigny and Mr. Joshua Rock as the top candidates. They both underwent and passed the City's pre-employment testing process, including a criminal background check, professional reference check, driving record check and employment verification, as well as a physical exam and drug screen. The City extended job offers to both candidates which are contingent upon City Council approval. Staff is recommending both candidates be hired as full-time Streets Maintenance Workers. They will be subject to a 6-month probationary period and all Personnel Policies and/or employment contracts will apply.
The Streets Maintenance Worker position is responsible for constructing and maintaining streets, parking lots and related property; performing snow-related activities; general maintenance activities; general labor; vehicle and motorized equipment maintenance; assisting with landscape, grounds care, and forestry/naturalist activities; assistance with preparation of community events; mechanical building maintenance and repair; as well as a wide range of other tasks as required. In addition, the Streets Maintenance Worker is required to be a member of the Public Works on-call team and work a rotating on-call schedule 8 weeks per year. This requires employees to be available to respond during evenings, weekends and holidays.
