Title:
Refurbish the 25-year-old Okapi Street Boardwalk Connection
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to recommend to City Council the refurbishment of the 132' foot boardwalk west of 16400 Okapi Street. The quarter-century old boardwalk is tattered and in poor condition and proposed to be 'over-decked' in the same manner as was done for the Lake Itasca Boardwalk a few years ago, and with the same funding source.
Timeframe:
Staff will highlight this infrastructure maintenance project which should take less than 5 minutes.
Observations/Alternatives:
The attached RFQ was sent to several known boardwalk contractors, with two quotes received by the February 20th due date. Peterson Companies provided a quote of $59,500, and MN Boardwalks LLC a quote of $25,872.
MN Boardwalks completed the Lake Itasca Boardwalk project and their work is sound and considered a reliable contractor. They indicate the work can be completed by mid-Summer.
MN Boardwalks completed the Lake Itasca Boardwalk project and their work is sound and considered a reliable contractor. They indicate the work can be completed by mid-Summer.
Funding Source:
The recommended funding source would be the Capital Maintenance Fund, (formerly known as ‘Park Maintenance Fund #810’) which has a present balance of $588k (after 2024 budgeted encumbrances).
Recommendation:
Staff recommends proceeding with the refurbishment of the 25-year-old boardwalk with the work to be performed by MN Boardwalks LLC, in the amount of $25,872.
Action:
Based upon discussion, motion to recommend to City Council the refurbishment of the Okapi Street Boardwalk in a not-to-exceed amount of $25,872.
