Title
Authorization to Hire a Rental Housing Inspector
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a full-time Rental Housing Inspector. This new position was reviewed during the 2024 budget discussions and is accounted for in the 2024 budget.
Staff conducted a recruitment and interview process to fill the opening. This process included an internal and external open competitive recruitment. Staff conducted nine first interviews followed by three second interviews. There were thirteen applicants that did not meet the position's minimum qualifications.
Staff selected Ms. Dana Verbeek as the top candidate. The City extended a job offer to Ms. Verbeek which is contingent upon City Council approval. Ms. Verbeek will be subject to a 6-month probationary period and all Personnel Policies and/or employment contracts will apply.
The primary objective of this position is to coordinate the City’s rental licensing program and to perform rental housing and property maintenance enforcement activities.
Hiring Ms. Verbeek to the position of Rental Housing Inspector will leave a vacancy in the Planning Division; Ms. Verbeek is currently working as a Planning Division Administrative Assistant. Human Resources staff will begin a recruitment to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.

Funding Source:
The funding required for this position is included in the 2024 budget.
Recommendation:
To hire Ms. Dana Verbeek, effective Monday, April 1, 2024, at $33.951 per hour, which is step 2 of the 2024 wage scale.
