Information

Title

Adopt Resolution #24-082 Authorizing Purchase of Replacement Rescue Truck

Purpose/Background:

The current 2024-2033 Capital Improvement plan shows the replacement of Rescue 11 - Unit #557, which is a 2000 Ford F450 Rescue Vehicle, in year 2025.  It is being requested to purchase the replacement Rescue truck in 2024, due to significant cost savings by purchasing a 2024 vs a 2025 model year.

Funding for the replacement of Unit #557 would be achieved by the following:
The adopted 2024 General Fund budget included the replacement purchase of the 1994 Tanker at $600,000 funded by the 2023 Legislative Public Safety funds. The final purchase price of the Tanker is coming in at $372,000, or a savings of $228,000.  The adopted 2024 General Fund budget also included the replacement purchase of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe which was also funded via the 2023 Legislative Public Safety funds.  This vehicle replacement will not be available until 2025, and staff is requesting to push this purchase out, thus making it a capital request for the 2025 budget year.  Lastly, in 2023 the city purchased a 2023 Rescue truck which resulted in the sale of the 2004 Rescue truck in January 2024 in the amount of $35,600.
The total estimated cost to replace the 2000 Rescue truck with a 2024 model is $299,000.

The 2024 Replacement Rescue Truck would be funded as such:

Budget Savings from Tanker Purchase:                                                $228,000  (2023 Legislature Public Safety Funds)
Sale of Rescue Truck-                                                                           $ 35,600  (held in fleet vehicle replacement Fund)
Remove purchase of 2024 Tahoe from 2024 General Fund Budget :   $45,000    (2023 Legislature Public Safety Funds)
                                                                                                               $308,600

The funds remaining:  $9,600 ($308,600 - $299,000) would be retained in the Fleet Vehicle Fund.
