Adopt Resolution #24-209 Approving Change Order No. 2 for Improvement Project #21-08, Water Treatment Plant Trunk Watermain Improvements
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to adopt Resolution #24-209 approving Change Order No. 2 for Improvement Project #21-08, Water Treatment Plant Trunk Watermain Improvements.
Background:
During construction, field changes were required to various existing and proposed watermain lines at the intersection of 143rd Avenue and County Road 56 / Ramsey Boulevard to avoid directional drilling under County Road 56 / Ramsey Boulevard under traffic. The proposed trunk watermain will instead be installed in an open trench when County Road 56 / Ramsey Boulevard is closed to traffic during the reconstruction of Ramsey Boulevard as part of the Ramsey Gateway project.
Field changes will also be required to convert 143rd Avenue from a 7-ton design to a 9-ton design to meet State Aid standards.
The attached Change Order includes detailed information on the required field changes made to existing pay items and on new pay items not included in the contract. Revised plan sheet 31 is attached to the Change Order to provide visual details on scope of the required field changes that were already constructed.
As always, staff strives to process change orders before work is completed. However, after-the-fact change order approvals are sometimes required to avoid even larger project costs resulting from contractor downtime while waiting for the next Council meeting to obtain approval before work is completed. This typically costs thousands to tens of thousands of dollars for each day work is halted.
