Title:

Web Based Mapping - Tools for Trails

Background:

In the Fall of 2011, Ramsey was awarded its second Community Engagement Scholar from Anoka Ramsey Community College.  Brian Personius is working on several projects for the city, including crafting a Request for Proposals for the Ramsey Foundation to solicit concessions for the concerts at The Draw and continued progress on marketing the Mississippi River Trail.

Additionally, he has updated Ramsey's trails on Google Maps and Cyclopath. Brian has a short presentation demonstrating the value of these on-line resources, and literally how to navigate them.  Staff will also review the measuring 'tool' on the Go Anoka County web site that was developed using the State Health Improvement Program. The purpose of this, is to remind (and demonstrate) to the public how they can measure in miles, kilometers or feet, their walking/biking route starting anywhere in the city, and returning to a point of beginning.

Observations:

Recently there has been discussion and acknowledgment that parks and trails are a benefit to many different aspects of the local economy and businesses.  One next step (now that Ramsey's trails are accurately displayed on the above referenced web-based maps), would be to invite businesses that offer services to trail users to 'show their stuff' on these trail maps.  Mr. Personius will demonstrate for the Commission and public what this may entail, and would look like.
