Title:
Adopt Ordinance #24-12 Regulating Cannabis Businesses
Purpose/Background:
The state's recent legislation on adult-use cannabis (MN Statute 342) requires municipalities to adopt an ordinance that regulates cannabis businesses in the city. The state provided a draft model ordinance in which the city is to modify to include the number of allowed cannabis businesses, location and time of sales.
The City Council reviewed the draft on October 8, 2024, and introduced the ordinance at the October 22, 2024, regular meeting.

Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives:
After adoption, the ordinance will be published for 30 days and will become effective on January 1, 2025.

Recommendation:
At its meeting on October 22, 2024, the CIty Council introduced ordinance #24-12.
Outcome/Action:
Motion to waive the City Charter requirement to read the ordinance aloud and adopt Ordinance #24-12 Regulating Cannabis Businesses.
