Title:
Authorization to Approve the Wage Scale for the New Crime Data Analyst Position
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is for City Council to authorize the wage scale for the new Crime Data Analyst position. This reclassification was included in the approved 2025 budget. Ms. Jamie Hedburg is the current full-time Police Records Technician/Crime Analyst. With this reclassification, Ms. Hedburg will become the new full-time Crime Data Analyst. The Police Records Technician/Crime Analyst position will be eliminated. The Crime Data Analyst position is needed to provide real-time information to make operational decisions and assist with analysis of investigative data (intelligence-led policing). This position will provide intelligence and real-time crime data for supervisors and command start to use in making decisions regarding resource deployment and operations.
Under the general direction of the Administrative Captain, the Crime Data Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting law enforcement operations by analyzing and disseminating crime-related data. Using advanced crime mapping, GIS, and data analysis tools, the analyst provides valuable intelligence to assist in investigations, community policing, and strategic planning. This position requires a professional attitude, technical expertise, and the ability to foster positive relationships within all department divisions and with external agencies.
As per the City's Personnel Policy, the City Council shall approve wages for all positions. This position is a professional, full-time, non-union, exempt position.
