Title:

Authorization to hire a Part-time Police Technician

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to hire a part-time Police Technician. As the City Council will recall, during the 2025 budget discussions the Council agreed by consensus to add a new part-time (25 hour per week) Police Technician.  As a result, Staff conducted two recruitment processes in order to secure a candidate for this role; this included an internal and external recruitment, first and second interviews, an extensive backgrounding process and other pre-employment tests.   Staff selected Ms. Rachael Jaremko, who will be subject to a six-month probationary period, the AFSCME labor agreement and the City’s Personnel Policy.  It should be noted that Ms. Jaremko has six years of experience as a Police Records Clerk.

In summary, this position performs a wide variety of technical and specialized functions as well as administrative work in support of the Police Department, including but not limited to  customer service support; entering, maintaining, retrieving and compiling factual information through numerous computerized systems and disseminating this information to authorized agencies and persons; monitoring compliance by applying knowledge of data privacy practice requirements, responding  to the public via telephone or in-person contact;  and classifying crimes pursuant to applicable state and federal reporting systems.

Funding Source:

The total funding required for this position is included in the 2025 budget.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends hiring Ms. Rachael Jaremko as the City’s new Police Technician, effective on or near March 26, 2025, at $30.235 per hour, which is step 2 of the wage scale.

Outcome/Action:

Motion to authorize hiring Ms. Rachael Jaremko as the City’s new Police Records Technician, effective on or near March 26, 2025, at $30.235 per hour, which is step 2 of the wage scale.
