Title:
Authorization to Hire a Water Resources Technician
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to authorize filling the Water Resources Technician. In order to fill the vacant position, a recruitment was conducted. Staff conducted the necessary pre-employment background checks and recommends Nathan Gillett for the position. Mr. Gillett will be subject to the terms of the City's Personnel Policy and AFSCME union contract, including a six-month probationary period.
The Water Resources Technician plays a critical role in managing the city’s water resources to aid in improving, protecting and sustaining these resources. This position serves to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local water resource regulations. Key responsibilities include management of the city’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP), Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP), and coordinating and assisting with other local initiatives with the goals of improving, protecting, and sustaining water resources.

Funding Source:
The funding required for this position is included in the 2025 budget and represents a savings over the previous Civil Engineer IV position, which has been eliminated.
Recommendation:
To hire Nathan Gillett as a full-time Water Resources Technician, effective on or near June 24, 2025, at $36.184 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2025 wage scale.
