Information
Title:
Background:
In recent weeks, staff had the opportunity to meet with Master Sergeant Dave Denton regarding establishing a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon (BTYR) program for military service members and their families in the Ramsey community. In short, BTYR aims to organize and market resources available for U.S. service members and their families to include prayer groups, available meeting spaces, gift package programs, discounted or donated services, etc.
U.S. Army Master Sergeant Dave Denton was present at the February 21, 2012 City Council work session and provided information regarding initiating a multi-city the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon (BTYR) program that would include the City of Ramsey, Anoka, Andover, Champlin and Coon Rapids. Staff and Mr. Denton discussed the commitment of each city in support of the program, which would include the following:
- Assistance in coordinating a kick-off event for the program (Thursday March 29, 6:30 p.m., Green Haven, Anoka)
- Assistance from the City communicating the kick-off event to the various local businesses and organizations
- General support from the City via the use of meeting rooms, communication mediums, and council members willing to speak at various events
The kick-off event has been scheduled for the evening of March 29 at Greenhaven in Anoka. The flyer for the event is attached to this case. The resolution pledging support from the City of Ramsey to the BTYR program is attached for consideration. Also attached is a letter of support for the program from the Metro North Chamber of Commerce.
