Title:

Authorization to Increase a Part-time Police Records Technician to Full-time

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to approve a change that was discussed and is included within the 2026 budget; the change is to increase a part-time Police Records Technician from 25 hours to 40 hours per week.  

The work load for police records technicians has increased significantly. Changing this position from part-time to full-time will allow the police records staff to focus more on increased data requests from the public, law enforcement agencies and the attorney’s office, as well as processing reports, data entry, permits, criminal investigation checks and communications via phone and email.  As the City Council may recall, earlier in 2025, a Police Records Technician / Crime Data Analyst position was reclassified to a full-time Crime Data Analyst, leaving the records division quite lean, making this a much needed change.

Funding Source:

The additional funding required for this action is included in the 2026 budget which is set for approval this evening, in the amount of $44,256.  

Recommendation:

To authorize increasing a part-time Police Records Technician to full-time.

Outcome/Action:

Motion to authorize increasing a part-time Police Records Technician to full-time, contingent upon this evening's 2026 final budget and levy adoption.
