Background:

The CSAH 5 (Nowthen Boulevard) and Alpine Drive intersection has been the scene of several serious accidents.  Four way Stop signs were installed after the most recent accident.  Anoka County applied for and recieved federal funding for installing a signal system at this intersection.

Representatives from the Anoka County Highway Department will be present to discuss the following:

Proposed Project Layout Overview

Questions

The project is scheduled for construction in 2014.  An open house for area businesses and residents is planned for early June 2013.

This project is similar to the Sunfish Lake Boulevard Alpine Drive signalization project that was constructed in 2011.  The City Share for that project was  approximately $120,000 of a $1.6 million project.  The remainder of the costs were covered by the federal grant.  The city costs covered extension of new watermain through the project area and lowering watermain since the road grades were lowered.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends reviewing the project layout and providing comments to Anoka County staff.

Funding Source:

The project is in the 2013 CIP with MSA identified as the funding source.   This would change to Utility Accounts if the City share is limited to reconstruction of utiities.

Council Action:

Motion to recommend the City Council approve the layout (as approved or with modifications).
