Consider Response to City of Anoka Comprehensive Plan Amendment for South Ferry Street Area

The City received notification from the City of Anoka regarding a Comprehensive Plan Amendment under consideration in Anoka. Per Minnesota Statute 473, the Metropolitan Council requires that major Comprehensive Plan Amendments be forwarded to adjacent communities and impacted agencies.

The Comprehensive Plan Amendment for Anoka addresses the land east of Ferry Street, west of the Rum River, and south of Main Street. This area is approximately twenty-five (25) acres in size. The area is proposed to change to Mixed Use from the existing designations of Mixed Use, Local Commercial, High Density Residential, General Commercial, and Park and Recreation. The underlying zoning district would establish four sub-areas of North Mixed Use, Open Space-Low Density Residential, Low Density Residential, and South Mixed Use.

Staff recommends that the City not object to the proposed amendment, but submit the City's common response related to continued efforts to address regional transportation issues.

Motion to direct Staff to submit the attached response to the City of Anoka's Comprehensive Plan Amendment for the South Ferry Street area.
