Approve Amending Council Meeting Schedule

Purpose:  To reschedule Council meetings that fall on the Primary Election and Veterans' Day.

Background:  Tuesday, August 12 is the date of the Primary Election.  According to State Statutes, no City meetings are allowed to be held during the times the polling locations are open for voting.  Council may elect to begin the meeting at 8:00 p.m., which is allowed as polls are closed by then, or reschedule to a different night, which is what we have done in the past.  Staff is recommending rescheduling the Tuesday, August 12 Council meeting to Monday, August 11. 

Tuesday, November 11 is a regular City Council meeting night and City offices are closed in observance of Veterans' Day.  Staff is recommending Council reschedule the Tuesday, November 11 meeting to Wednesday, November 12.

If Council is not in agreement with the dates recommended by staff and would like to vote on something different, this case may be pulled from the Consent Agenda for discussion.

All meeting changes will be noticed with the Official Posting of the Meeting Schedule on the Posting Board in the lobby of the Municipal Center, as well as on the City's website.  Staff will also place a note under Mayor/Council/Staff Input on the July 8 meeting notifying the public of a change in the meeting schedule.

Staff recommends rescheduling the August 12 meeting to August 11 and the November 11 meeting to November 12.

Motion to reschedule the August 12 meeting to Monday, August 11, and to reschedule the November 11 meeting to November 12.
